Party of Freedom and Justice deputy president Borko Stefanovic said on June 25 that after the indictment of Hashim Thaci the question was how Thaci and Aleksandar Vucic could lead credible negotiations.
Stefanovic said that the U.S. administration could apparently lead talks on an unknown plan for solving the issue of Kosovo with a man who was accused of war crimes, on the one hand, and on the other, a man who was a proven autocrat in a country without a free media, elections and parliament.
A statement issued by the party quoted Stefanovic as saying that this was why it was unsurprising that Thaci had decided to cancel his trip to Washington. "Justice is slow, but attainable and everyone responsible for crimes will definitely be called to account in the end, which the Hague court's indictment against Thaci confirms," Stefanovic said.
The problem of Kosovo and Metohija, he said, cannot be solved through unclear and semi-clandestine deals between war crimes suspects and "isolated autocrats and former saber-rattlers and profiteers." "Everyone in the international community now sees this. Only the democratization and exclusion of crime and atrocities in the Belgrade and Pristina administrations can lead to reconciliation and a solution to the Kosovo problem," Stefanovic said.
