Dusan Janjic: Political Leaders’ Stop-and-Go Tactical Moves

The announcing of the indictment by the Special Prosecutor's Office against Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and other individuals, suspected of "a number of crimes against humanity and war crimes," is a precedent that will affect the events in Kosovo, the director of the Forum for Ethnic Relations, Dragan Janjic, assessed on June 25.

"This is an early phase of the proceedings which could have direct political effects on the situation in Kosovo, in the sense of deterioration of inter-Albanian confrontations, and to result in the stepping up of demands for the early election of a new president," he told BETA.

"The first option that U.S. envoy Richard Grenell currently has is to schedule a new meeting in July or August," but one should bear in mind that the election campaign is also under way in the U.S., and that "there is no accord between the Congress and the White House," Janjic stated.
