Epidemiologist Zoran Radovanovic said on July 13 that reversing the situation regarding the coronavirus in 20 days was not impossible if "either the most restrictive measures are put in place or the prescribed ones are fully implemented," but voiced doubt that this would actually happen in Serbia.

Radovanovic told BETA that the scenario was not very likely because the measures were not being strictly adhered to, as the crisis response team had gambled away citizens' trust.

"If the crisis response team manages to restore trust, if they present actual data on the infected, if they admit that they lied for political purposes and say that from now on they will work in the interest of citizens, and if citizens believe them and start strictly following the measures, the situation may improve considerably in three to four weeks," said Radovanovic, and added that he was skeptical about that happening.

He believes that the authorities gambled away the chance of Serbia's dealing relatively well with the coronavirus the moment they abolished all measures for the sake of an election campaign, and that it is now difficult to reimpose restrictive measures.
