A new Israeli ambassador to Serbia, Yahel Vilan, said on Sept. 21 that his country recognized the independence of Kosovo on Sept. 4, and that it wasn't an issue anymore.

"There should be no more questions as to whether Israel will recognize Kosovo or not, because it did, on Sept. 4. What we should do now is to find a way for the decision not to affect relations between Serbia and Israel," Ambassador Vilan said in an interview with the N1 TV, explaining that Israel didn't sign anything at a Serbia-Kosovo meeting in Washington, on Sept. 4, and that the country wasn't part of the summit.

The Israeli diplomat said that he had an inaugural meeting with President Aleksandar Vucic on arrival, and that they discussed opportunities to improve the bilateral relationship. When asked by an N1 journalist if the president had commented on Israel's decision to recognize Kosovo's independence, the ambassador said "it wasn't something that the president was satisfied with or supportive of."
