Two more people died from COVID-19 in Serbia in the last 24 hours, while the number of new cases of infection was 122, according to the data published on the Ministry of Health website on Oct. 19.

The website says 408 people are being treated for the coronavirus in hospitals, 24 of them on ventilators.

Retired epidemiologist Ana Gligic told BETA on Oct. 19 that the communal police and other competent inspectorates should be much more engaged in controlling and sanctioning excessive gatherings at hospitality venues, so as to mitigate the announced escalation of COVID-19.

Asked to comment on the free entry into Serbia from countries in which the epidemic is currently on the rise, Gligic says that everyone's health should be checked at the border.

"All the countries we border have many more infected than we do and that is why all who come to Serbia must present a negative COVID-19 test," said Gligic and added that the responsibility for implementing preventive measures lay with the Crisis Headquarters.
