Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Oct. 28 that despite a spike in new coronavirus cases no new restrictions had been imposed, but the existing Covid-19 rules were going to be strictly enforced.

"No new restrictions have been introduced at this point, but those who disobey the existing Covid-19 rules will be punished severely. Everyone will be able to see this firsthand in the coming days. We have no choice. We can't shut down the economy and life, but the absolute minimum must be respected," Vucic said at a press conference in the Palace of Serbia, after he had discussed the situation with coronavirus hospital managements.

The president said that Serbia, trying to protect the national economy, didn't want to impose new restrictions, similar to those introduced in the Czech Republic and France, "unless pushed to the edge of the abyss."

"The numbers do give cause for concern, but the concerning statistics aside, the situation in Serbia is far better then elsewhere in Europe, President Vucic said to reporters, expressing gratitude to medical professionals for exceptional efforts.
