Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said on Nov. 2 that the country was in an increasingly difficult situation where the coronavirus was concerned and that hospitals were filling up, which was it was extremely important for citizens to strictly adhere to the infection countermeasures.

Vučić told a press conference at the Palace of Serbia that over the last 24 hours seven more people had died from the consequences of COVID-19, whereas the number of new cases of infection was slightly smaller than in previous days, but that it was due to the fact that fewer people got tested on weekends.

However, he also said that despite the lower number of infected people the percent of newly registered cases had increased relative to the number of tested people.

"Our request is that people adhere to the measures. I know many people who claim that those stories are made up, and they ended up in a hospital for 30 or 40 days. I don't want to gripe about how much that costs, it costs much more than what we paid for it," he said and voiced the hope that the closing of hospitality venues would not be needed, because the state needed every single dinar, but that even that step would be taken if necessary.
