Only pharmacies, gas stations, food delivery services and night shift employees will be allowed to work from 9 pm to 5 am, the Serbian government decided at a special session on Nov. 15, in a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said after the session that her cabinet had decided to listen to the advice of medical professionals in the government's Crisis Headquarters and introduce the new restrictions.

"The restrictions will not take effect until Nov. 17, because we wanted to give a day to those hit hardest by the new restrictions to organize their businesses. The restrictions will be in place for 15 days, until Dec. 1, when the government will decide whether to extend or tighten them," the prime minister explained, underlining that the ban applied to coffee shops, clubs, shops and shopping malls.

Brnabic added that the next step was a movement ban, and that it would be introduced if necessary, even though the government wasn't in favor of it. "We are not considering it at this point, as estimates say that the new restrictions will give results and help the numbers drop," the Serbian PM said.
