Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated on Nov. 16 that Serbian citizens should be proud of the results they have achieved together with the government in the fight against COVID-19, adding that Serbia has it better than most countries when it comes to health and economy.

“I understand that people are tired from everything, but we have to persist until the end, and the end will come with the vaccine,” Brnabic said for the Pink TV and pointed out that Serbia will be among the first to procure the vaccine and that it “won’t be used sparingly.”

She expressed her conviction that the current measures and personal responsibility of the citizens will help improve the current epidemiological situation in Serbia, but that the government “won’t hesitate to introduce stricter measures to save lives and the economy as well.”

Brnabic also said that the authorities have suffered pressure from “the non-parliamentary opposition – which is ‘non-parliamentary’ because of how it operates – but the measures were introduced in accordance with the recommendations of the COVID-19 Crisis Headquarters.”

“Had we listened to [the non-parliamentary opposition] we would’ve gone under, health- and economy-wise.  This is not a political fight, and the situation should not be abused to score stupid, cheap, populist points. The people are not stupid and they know what [the non-parliamentary opposition] was saying two months ago, and how they have changed their tune. At the same time, their cafes are open,” Brnabic said.
