Serbian Minister of Education Branko Ruzic said on Nov. 16 that schools appeared to be the safest place amidst the spread of coronavirus, and that in some regions of Serbia the virus had never reached the schools.
"There's no reason to panic, or return to online learning," Ruzic said in an interview with the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS), adding that the situation was constantly monitored.
The minister recalled that parents who wanted their children to go online could always choose the option. "At the beginning, some four percent of students got back to virtual learning, in September the percentage dropped to 2.7, and now it's 3.3, which is telling us that parents do trust the education system," Ruzic said.
"What's important is that medical professionals at the government's Crisis Headquarters will always be able to suggest the restriction. For the time being, there's no reason to do it," the minister said, adding though that an uptick in the number of new infections had been reported among teachers, which would be taken into account when new restrictions were discussed.
