Mihajlovic to Women: You Are Not Alone, Report Violence

Women have been more exposed to the risk of violence during the coronavirus pandemic, and this year, too, Serbia has joined a global U.N. campaign, 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, sending a message to women that they are not alone, and that they should not wait for the pandemic to end to report violence, the Coordinating Body for Gender Equality said on Nov. 25.

The government's Coordinating Body has joined a new campaign, "You Are Not Alone, Report Violence!," together with the Serbian Ministry of the Interior and U.N. Women, with the support of the EU Delegation in Serbia and the Dutch embassy, the government organization said in a press release.

President of the Coordinating Body for Gender Equality Zorana Mihajlovic said that she would not offer any numbers to illustrate family and intimate partner violence, because women were not numbers, but equal human beings with an equal right to development and education, as well as to the fulfilment of their dreams.

Head of the EU Delegation in Serbia Sem Fabrizi said that violence against women was the consequence of gender inequality, and that it was why the European Union (EU) was supporting activities aimed at full gender equality, as well as those designed to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls in
