President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen said in a Dec. 4 talk with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic that Serbia, would gain access to Covid-19 vaccines based on its cooperation with the European Union (EU), once they were officially approved.

The Serbian prime minister and the EC president described the situation caused by the pandemic as complex, however, they added that restrictions had yielded results and underlined that it was necessary for people to respect them until enough vaccines had been produced, the Serbian government quoted the two officials as saying.

Prime Minister Brnabic reiterated that full membership in the Union remained one of the key priorities of her new government's foreign policy, and that Serbia was laboring to implement comprehensive reforms, especially in the rule of law.

The EC leader said that the Union's new enlargement methodology that Serbia had accepted would step up the accession process, underlining the Commission's readiness to work on that.
