Democratic Party leader Zoran Lutovac stated on Dec. 7 his belief that a dialogue on ensuring conditions for free and fair elections in Serbia, between the authorities and the opposition with the EU as a mediator, will begin soon.

Lutovac said that “all that the opposition holds against the authorities, the EU also cites in its reports,” which is why the EU is necessary as a mediator, the party’s press release reads.

“The successful outcome of the dialogue is in the interest of all, but for it to be successful it is important that the dialogue’s agenda is clearly determined. We have to talk about how we will ensure compliance with the law and the Constitution, and not to what extent or whether or not – as many would have it – we will comply with [them],” Lutovac said.

According to him, in addition to fighting for media freedom the opposition has to harmonize its activities and reactions, to formulate its demands, and with those demands, united, appear before the citizens of Serbia and ask for their support.

The Democrat head further said that the Democratic Party is focused on what really matters, which is why its local and line committees are dealing not only with what is important for the citizens’ everyday lives and fair elections, but are also intensively working on preparations and solutions for a systemic change in Serbia which “implies a complete societal change, and not only a replacement of the people currently in power.”
