Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Dec. 20 that 5,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine against the coronavirus would arrive in Serbia in the next two to three days, explaining that nursing home residents over the age of 75 would be the first recipients.

Vucic said the amount was insufficient and that another 30,000-40,000 doses were expected. He voiced the conviction that European Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi would help Serbia get the vaccine as soon as possible and that the procurement would not be delayed.

Vucic said that a newly opened COVID hospital in Krusevac, with 493 hospital beds, 150 of which are for intensive care patients, would provide care for patients from Kosovo and Metohija, too. He noted that the hospital had been built in four months and that the equipment cost RSD1.119 billion, or EUR9.5 million.
