The Association of Internet Workers has announced that its members will rally outside the Parliament of Serbia on Jan. 16, to protest against a government decision to charge them taxes for the past six years and demand what they have demanded before - that the collection be suspended and negotiations opened with the Association.

The organization called all Serbia's Internet workers to join the rally to "show their discontent and say 'no' to a government attempt at robbing them." The Association explained that the authorities, relaying on the Tax Revenue Office, "were threatening the existence and future of tens of thousands of families of the Internet workers."

According to the Association, the Revenue Office had sent thousands of taxation notices ahead of New Year's Eve, "determined to take up to 80 percent of what we have earned over the past few years, amidst the pandemic at that. Our demands haven't changed - that the collection be suspended and negotiations opened, the Internet workers say.
