In the past 24 hours, Serbia registered 2,715 new coronavirus cases and 39 Covid-19 related deaths, it was said on Jan. 4.

According to a statement from the Health Ministry, 7,126 people are hospitalized, of whom 259 patients are on ventilators.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic, 346,585 have tested positive, while 3,364 have died in relation to the infection.

An epidemiologist and the head of the Department for Infection prevention and control at the Military Hospital in Belgrade, Vesna Suljagic, on Jan. 4 said that all Serbia’s citizens should be vaccinated and should not fear from the shot side effects.

Suljagic told state public broadcaster RTS that on Dec. 24 she had received the first doze of the Pfizer-BioNTech jab and should get another dose in 20 days, stressing that she had had no side effects. “The development of a vaccine is a victory of science. Now, we are starting to control the virus and not vice versa as was the case until shots were developed,” she said.
