Serbia has again been rated as a country with a high corruption perception index (CPI) of 38 out of 100 points, the Transparency Serbia organization said on Jan. 28.

At a conference called, Has Serbia Progressed or Regressed on the CPI List and What It Needs to Do to Lower Corruption, the organization said that this year again Serbia was in the bottom half of the global list with 94 out of 180 countries having as many as five points less than the global average (43 points).

Even though the battle against corruption has been declared a state priority, Serbia's ratings are the worst in eight years.

According to TS program director Nemanja Nenadic, the country's results reveal a disconcerting trend and the fact that Serbia's ratings have fallen are correlated with the way that anti-corruption laws and anti-corruption mechanisms were applied last year.
