Serbian Speaker Ivica Dacic said on Jan. 28 that good relations with the US. were a national and state interest and important to the entire region.

"It is important that we have have good relations that reflect mutual interests as this is important to the entire region along with establishing regional security," Dacic said in Serbian parliament at a presentation of the results of a poll on how Serbian citizens feel toward the US.

He said that relations between Serbia and the U.S. over the past several years had been showing a big positive trend and that both countries had moved on, despite disagreements on certain issues, especially with regard to Kosovo. Dacic said that he expected that U.S. President Joseph Biden and the new U.S. administration would seize the upward trend and continue enriching it with new forms of cooperation.

At a presentation of the results of a study on How Serbia's Citizens Feel about the U.S., U.S. deputy ambassador in Serbia Gabriel Escobar said that the new U.S. administration would change a lot of things in the U.S. but not its relationship toward Serbia, which he described as "a modern European nation" which the U.S. wanted the strongest possible partnership with.
