Aleksandar Vulin (BETAPHOTOMINISTRY OF INTERIOR/MO)

Following the arrest of 17 members of a criminal organization led by Veljko Belivuk and Marko Miljkovic, Serbian Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin said on Feb. 4 that Serbia is a serious country that will not allow the formation of a clan that thinks itself stronger than the state.

During a press conference at the Palace of Serbia, Vulin confirmed that after several months of hard work the police had arrested 17 individuals suspected of murder, kidnapping, extortion and drug trafficking.

“Serbia is a serious country that won’t let the formation of organized crime groups that think themselves stronger than the state, that will steal, murder, deal [drugs] and extort. Serbia today is a better and safer place,” Vulin said.

The minister thanked the police force for their many “sleepless nights,” adding that a criminal organization whose acts cannot even be put into words, has been removed from the streets.

Vulin called on the citizens to report to the police any information they may have on the activities of the apprehended suspects so that the latter’s crimes may be solved.
