The Palestinian foreign ministry has released a statement saying that it is disappointed with an agreement on establishing diplomatic relations between Kosovo and Israel and its intentions to open an embassy in Jerusalem and voiced the hope that Kosovo will reexamine and annul this act.

"The step that Kosovo took by signing the agreement with the occupying state and declaration of its intentions to open an embassy in occupied Jerusalem, is a step that is entirely contrary to all of Kosovo's efforts to persuade countries around the world to recognize it," the Palestinian ministry of foreign affairs and the diaspora said in the statement.

A statement released by the Palestinian embassy in Serbia on Feb. 4 describes the agreement between Kosovo and Israel on Feb. 1 as "disappointing" because Kosovo, "which is trying to find a place among independent countries, is expected to observe international legitimacy and international law."

The ministry hopes that decision-making institutions in Kosovo will reexamine this step and cancel this hasty decision and correct the offending act. By doing so, Kosovo can provide an example of observing international legitimacy and international law, the statement said.
