In a comment on U.S. President Joseph Biden's message of support to Serbia in reaching an agreement with Kosovo focused on mutual recognition, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Feb. 7 that the term "mutual recognition" wasn't mentioned in any agreement or resolution.

"We understand this is America's new policy, and there were attempts in Washington, too, to force the term upon us as something that we were supposed to accept as a final solution. I made it very clear at the White House what I thought about mutual recognition and my answer would be no different at this time," Vucic said to reporters. He said that "it is not very pleasant" to realize that the U.S. foreign policy was aimed at having Kosovo's independence recognized.

Vucic said that the matters surrounding Kosovo and Republika Srpska were getting complicated. The president appealed to the Serbs in Kosovo to vote for the Serb Ticket in a Feb. 14 election in Kosovo, explaining that it was important for the Serbs to be represented in the "provisional institutions of government."

President Vucic also said that Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic's "anti-Serbian histrionics" and the type of nationalism typical of "the idea of a Greater Montenegro" could not produce any serious results, except for the homogenization of a group of people who hate Serbia.
