Novelist Laszlo Vegel said on Feb. 18  that the opposition in Serbia needed to carefully follow what the opposition in Hungary was doing, which united after three catastrophic defeats and is going to run in the next election as a single bloc.

He told the Tacno.net website that the opposition in Hungary will come out with a single ticket for elections and a single candidate for prime minister, while the first public opinion polls were showing that the opposition had a slight advantage over the ruling Fidesz's ticket. "Whether they will win cannot be predicted, but the 'golden age' of Orban's Fidesz is definitely over," Vegel said.

He added that there were numerous similarities between the government of Hungarian Prime Minister Vitko Orban and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and that both of them were transitory politicians who wanted to grab all political and economic power for themselves.

Vegel said that the explosion of nationalism across all of Eastern Europe suited the new ruling caste, as nationalism "has rather successfully conserved ruling social relations." "With the help of nationalism a society without an alternative is being built as nationalism obfuscates every alternative," he said.
