Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic said on March 8 that the fight against all forms of crime is one of his government’s top priorities and an integral part of Serbia’s EU accession process.

“It is also our moral duty to leave a world that is safer, more just and better for generations to come,” Selakovic said in his video link speech at the 14th U.N. Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, which is being held in Kyoto, Japan.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ official statement, Selakovic also said that Serbia had identified the suppression of high-tech crime, human trafficking, terrorism and irregular immigration as its goals in the Second National Serious and Organized Crime Threat Assessment from 2019.

The minster pointed out that Serbia had “established in a timely manner a normative and institutional framework that regulates prevention of abuse in this area.” The Special Prosecutor Office for Cyber Crime, he added, was also founded, as a special court department and a special police unit.
