Prime Minister Ana Brnabic on March 16 said that as part of the coronavirus countermeasures, all venues, but grocery stores, pharmacies and gas stations, would be shut down from March 17 to 22.

After a meeting of the Crisis Headquarters, Brnabic said that there would be no curfew. She added that the new measures were the result of a compromise as the medical members of the Crisis Headquarters had requested a two-week lockdown.

“The working hours would be like the previous weekend. Everything would shut down in the evening on March 16 until March 21. On March 22, we will reconsider the situation. There will be no curfew or restrictions of free movement. Grocery shops, pharmacies, gas stations and everything necessary for a relatively normal life will be open,” Brnabic said.

She added that public institutions and postal offices would continue to work, while remote working would be applied wherever possible.

Brnabic also said that on-site testing would increase on border crossings. “The only way out of this situation is vaccination,” Brnabic said, adding she was pleased with inoculation as between 10,000 and 12,000 citizens had been applying for vaccination on a daily basis.
