Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic said after an April 18 meeting with Iran's top officials in Tehran that the two countries had very serious political relations which needed to be expanded to the field of economic cooperation.

After meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Agriculture Minister Kazem Khavazi, Selakovic said Tehran was providing "principled, consistent and clear support" for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia in international organizations and forums, the Serbian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

The Serbian minister, who will return from Iran on April 18, said the country's officials had "expressed a great willingness" to expand and advance cooperation, especially in agriculture.

On April 17, Selakovic met with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif and signed an agreement on cooperation between the two ministries, and with Hamid Zabdoum, deputy minister in charge of foreign trade.
