In a meeting with Linda Van Gelder, country director for the Western Balkans Region of the World Bank, on May 11, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said Belgrade was ready for a new phase in cooperation with the World Bank, where particular attention would be paid to new projects for railway modernization, market competitiveness, raising environmental standards of businesses, and incentives for human capital.

“Serbia has been growing more competitive due to a serious and responsible approach to the budget and investors, but also due to planned approach to relevant infrastructure projects which are of extreme importance for future investments,” Vucic said, adding that Serbia remained committed to implementing reforms in order to get back on track of a fast growth.

Linda Van Gelder said that fiscal consolidation measures had created a healthy foundation for future fast economic growth of the Serbian economy, according to a statement from Vucic’s press office. She also praised the inoculation process in Serbia, which, she said, had become a role model of responsibility and success at the global level, and had made Serbia a safe country for work and doing business in the conditions of the ongoing pandemic.
