Serbian National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic said on June 14 that by threatening to sue Serbia for genocide in Kosovo, Pristina is attempting to push the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue into the background.

According to Dacic, Pristina makes such announcements before every new round of talks in Brussels. “It’s an attempt to say that there are preconditions [that have to be met] before we even get to the talks. War reparations, genocide charges, and supposed rapes in Kosovo, always come up whenever talks in Brussels are being held,” the parliament speaker said for Pink TV.

He dismissed Pristina’s announcements to file genocide charges against Serbia as “laughable.” “Had they had legal basis, they would’ve filed the charges a long time ago,” Dacic said and added that “hard times are ahead” for his country as it is under “condensed pressure” from different sides.

A new round of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is planned for June 15 in Brussels. Serbia President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti are both expected to participate in the talks with the mediation of the EU special representative for Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak.
