Liberation Movement: Blockade and Civil Disobedience Only Way to Change Current Government

According to the Serbian Liberation Movement leader, Mladjan Djordjevic, elections will not change anything in Serbia as long as Aleksandar Vucic is in power, because “[Vucic’s] elections aren’t elections at all.” Civil disobedience, Djordjevic added, is the only way to topple the current Serbian government.

“Mafia will never hold elections it can lose. This is why we aren’t getting ready for elections nor are we forming electoral coalitions. Our imperative is removing Vucic from power and prosecuting him for all the crimes he’s committed, and returning to the people all that he and his gang have stolen,” Djordevic said for the June 28 issue of the Danas daily.

“Only a well coordinated expression of the people’s will, in the form of total civil disobedience, such as a nationwide blockade, which would last two, three, or ten days,” Djordjevic said, could “drive Vucic away.”

When asked if the limits of what is normal have been crossed in Serbia the moment its president challenged the opposition to a fight, Djordjevic replied that by doing so, Vucic has shown that “deep down, he is still only an unaccomplished hooligan leader, a mere street thug.”

“Just imagine what would have happened had a fight actually taken place. Vucic would call on his supporters to a civil war and a showdown with those who do not think like him. That’s the kind of man we’re dealing with,” Djordjevic conclude
