Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on July 8 after meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Belgrade, that relations between Serbia and Hungary had reached an historical high and that cooperation with Hungary was developing rapidly in the political and economic spheres.

Vucic said that it was Orban himself who was largely to credit with how events were developing and thanked him for his huge contribution to the full stabilization of the entire Western Balkans region, which would enable not only neighborly relations to develop but the economic progress of all countries.

Commenting on Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Peter Szijjarto being awarded with the order of the Serbian flag first class, Vucic said that this Szijjarto had attended every intergovernmental conference between the EU and Serbia and had constantly insisted that Serbia needed to join the EU as soon as possible.

"He fought for the truth and was not ashamed of his friendship with Serbia. We are endlessly grateful for that. Thanks too to Viktor Orban for leading such a policy. I am sure that this is another link in our chain of friendship," Vucic said.
