U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Anthony Godfrey has said that any agreement between Belgrade and Pristina will require a compromise by both sides.

“We all agree that there has to be a productive dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and that people cannot just come to the table with demands, and not be prepared to compromise. Any agreement between Belgrade and Pristina will require a compromise by both sides, and both sides should show readiness to talk,” Godfrey told the Novi Sad portal 021.rs in the evening on Aug. 10.

He reiterated that the U.S. supports the dialogue mediated by the European Union, expecting “that it will proceed in a way enabling both Belgrade and Pristina’s progress on the path toward the EU.” He also expressed his country’s support to the Open Balkans regional initiative.

“I am pleased to have recently seen additional steps toward a greater regional economic integration, to demonstrate to the people that better cooperation in the region is beneficial for them, too, that their future looks brighter and that they [will] have a stronger economy on which they can work more effectively,” the ambassador said.
