Over the past 24 hours 38 people died of the coronavirus in Serbia, bringing the death toll to 7,846, the covid19.rs website reported on Sept. 21

A total of 7,323 new cases were registered while 25,014 people were tested. 188 people are on ventilators while 4,837 people have been hospitalized. Since the outbreak of the epidemic the numbers of cases has reached 879,342 while 5,428,465 people were tested.

World Health Organization (WHO) Serbian office chief Marijan Ivanusa said on Sept. 21that people were avoiding vaccination mostly because of mistrust.

"The vaccine is the best protection. People are now thinking about whether it is safe, whether it works, that it hasn't been tested. How could it not be tested, when five to six billion doses of the vaccine have been administered around the world? Some three million people in Serbia alone have been vaccinated," Ivanusa told Serbian state TV. He said that the current epidemiological situation in Serbia could last longer due to characteristics of the delta strain.
