Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will visit Belgrade on Oct. 11, where he is to participate in the jubilee session of the Non-Aligned Movement, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Movement's founding, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, announced on Oct. 7.

"For the first time in history, Russia will participate in the Non-Aligned Movement as an observer, and it was given this status in July this year, on the initiative of the Russian president. That step is proof of the fact that our country and the Movement shared the approach on many global issues. That also provides possibilities for expanding partnerships," Zakharova stated.

She said that, during the event, the Russian foreign minister would read the greeting letter from President Vladimir Putin. "This underscores the particular importance that Russia attributes to the Non-Aligned Movement," Zakharova said.
