Serbian Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar has said that a contract has been signed with drug maker Pfizer for the procurement of its new experimental oral antiviral treatment.

Speaking to state public broadcaster RTS on Nov. 8, Loncar said that Serbia was the third country in the world to sign an agreement with Pfizer and would be the first country to receive the drug.

“Serbia is the third country in the world which has signed a contract with Pfizer and will be the first country to receive the treatment which has been found to reduce the risk of hospitalization or severe complications by 89 percent,” Loncar stressed.

Loncar also said that a mild increase in vaccination rates had been registered since the introduction of Covid passes. “This has been expected and it is the reason we have introduced the passes. We will do everything to boost vaccination rates and ensure safety in all domains,” he said. Loncar called on citizens to get vaccinated against Covid-19, noting that two thirds of all hospitals were now treating coronavirus patients.
