During an online conference with members of regional security and defense initiative the Central European Defense Cooperation (CEDC) and representatives of the Western Balkans, Serbian Defense Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said that EU enlargement represented a strategic investment in peace, democracy, prosperity, security, and stability in the territory of the entire Europe.

Speaking at the virtual conference focusing on EU membership prospect for the Western Balkan countries, held in the evening on Dec. 15, Stefanovic said that the security of the region was common responsibility and obligation of all living in this region, according to a statement from the Defense Ministry.

“In the previous period, Serbia has confirmed its firm commitment to contributing to strengthening all forms of cooperation with the neighboring countries through a dialogue. We continue to contribute to building trust, stability, security, and overall development of the region, while expecting the support not only from the countries in the region, but also from other international entities,” Stefanovic said.

He further said that in line with its commitment to joining the EU, Serbia had harmonized its strategic documents with the EU Global Strategy thereby showing its resolve for strengthening cooperation with the EU in the field of defense and security, while in parallel improving its national security and defense, it is said in the release.

“Having signed an Administrative arrangement with the European Defense Agency (EAD), we have further intensified cooperation with the EU countries in the defense field. The most important element of this form of cooperation is the engagement in the newly established Multinational Helicopter Training Center in the Portuguese town of Sintra,” Stefanovic said.
