Hungary had organized a major military exercise along its border with Serbia and had agreed with Ankara the deployment of Turkish police forces within efforts to suppress further inflow of migrants from the Middle East, portal Balkan Security Network wrote on Dec. 21.

According to the portal, Turkey will deploy 50 police officers to Hungary to assist local colleagues in patrolling the border lines with Serbia and Romania and prevent migrants from entering into the EU.

An agreement envisaging engagement of Turkish police officers in Hungary has been signed by the Hungarian and Turkish interior ministers, Sandor Pinter and Suleyman Soylu respectively. It has been agreed to deploy the Turkish police officers in the region of borders crossings Roszke (Horgos) with Serbia and Nadlac with Romania.

The agreement has been signed in the shadow of the major military and police exercise titled Decisive Action 2021, which Hungary organized last week right next to the border crossing Roszke (Horgos) with Serbia. The drill aimed to test the capability of military and police units to ensure the state border against migrants. The scale of the event implies that its goal was to deter migrants trying to reach the most developed EU countries from the south, according to the portal.
