The KFOR Chronicle, published by the Kosovo Force (KFOR) Headquarters, revealed in an article a special intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) unit within the peacekeeping force in Kosovo.

The Balkan Security Network reported on Dec. 22 that the ISR Battalion was the KFOR commander’s “eyes and ears,” providing detailed reports from every corner of the territory.

The ISR unit is typical of NATO militaries, unifying all the components of military intelligence. The symbol of the ISR Battalion is an owl, which also stands for Observation, the use of unmanned vehicles (Wings) and Liaison.

“The Austrian contingent, in command of a reconnaissance squadron, runs surveillance operations. Reconnaissance unmanned vehicles are operated by a second reconnaissance squadron led by the 185th Paratroopers Reconnaissance Target Acquisition Regiment, an Italian special forces unit. The British Royal Lancers liaise with the local population,” the KFOR Chronicle reports.
