The European Union has commended Serbia's decision to, along with six other countries, align with the Council of Europe's resolution on restrictive measures against Belarus.

In a statement released  late on Dec. 22, the EU recalled that the Council's newest package of sanctions against Belarus was introduced on Dec. 2, including 17 more individuals and 11 more organizations on the list of Belarus people and entities sanctioned by the Union.

"Candidate countries the Republic of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Albania, as well as EFTA [European Free Trade Association] members Island, Liechtenstein and Norway have joined the Council's decision," the press release reads.

Furthermore, the above-mentioned countries will ensure that their national policies are aligned with Council of Europe decisions, the statement said, adding that the EU "recognizes" and "commends" this obligation.
