The Serbian Radical Party said on Jan. 5 that the interference of German Ambassador to Belgrade Thomas Schieb in Serbia's internal affairs was inappropriate and inadmissible.

The party described a statement by Ambassador Schieb, that a convincing "yes" in the Jan. 16 referendum on constitutional amendments would be very important because it would result in strengthening judicial independence, as malicious.

The party added that the statement "goes beyond the boundaries of the role of an ambassador in a sovereign state." The Radical party stressed "the hypocrisy and ill intent of Schieb who is trying to convince the people in Serbia to vote for the displacement of the election of judges from the National Assembly, whereas that is exactly how the matter is regulated in his state."

The party added that "solutions backed by the German ambassador cannot be good for Serbia" and urged citizens to vote in the Jan. 16 referendum and choose "no."
