The foreign ministers of Austria, Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia supported at a meeting in Stirzin Castle in Czechia on April 12 an announcement by the host, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky, that despite the new priorities of the Czech chair over the EU due to Russia's attack on Ukraine, the focus would remain on the eurointegration of the Western Balkans.

"Geographically we want to focus on the transatlantic partnership, Eastern Europe, and let's not forget the Western Balkans, regions that are tied to what is happening in Ukraine as Russia is undermining the international order with war," Jan Lipavsky said at a news conference after the meeting.

Slovakia's Foreign Minister Ivan Korcok voiced his gratitude over the fact that Czechia's focus would remain on the Western Balkans during its chair over the EU in the second half of the year.

"You can count on Slovakia's support," Korcok said.

Slovenian Foreign Minister Anze Logar warned that the EU must not lose sight of the Western Balkans. "I am glad that you are placing the Western Balkans high up on the agenda of your chairmanship over the EU. We must not lose sight of this region. I hope that progress will be made and that negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia will begin during the French or Czech chairmanship. This is the strongest message that we can send to the region," Logar said.
