Opposition Party Official: Open State Television to Different Opinion

A vice-president of the Freedom and Justice Party, Marinika Tepic, sent an open letter to the director of the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS), Dragan Bujosevic, and the editor-in-chief of the RTS news programme, Nenad Stefanovic, saying that in the 30 days after Serbia’s parliamentary polls “representatives of opposition parliamentary parties haven’t been invited by the RTS to share their opinion on any matter, even though they won nearly 40 percent of the vote.”

“Having in mind that local and international representative organizations have already expressed serious concern over the state of media freedoms in Serbia, we are requesting room for information and debate to be extended by the RTS Channel I immediately, opening the channel to the other side, a different opinion, objective and timely information in the best interest of all Serbian citizens, who are paying you,” Tepic said in the letter.

“Serbia’s attitude towards the war in Ukraine, the acceptance of the stance all European states have taken on Russia, or a failure to accept it, economic problems, price jumps, the collapse of Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) power utility, corruption and crime, a series of murders in Belgrade that have upset Belgraders and many other themes should be covered by the public service, but you won’t allow it,” Tepic said.
