Epidemiologist Branislav Tiodorovic stated on June 16 that an increase in the number of new infections with the coronavirus was expected, but that the current numbers were not alarming.

"It is summer, people travel, there are no particular limitations and many have forgotten that corona was still here," Tiodorovic told the Blic daily. The fluctuation of the number of newly infected people, in his words, does not represent any "alarm signal."

According to figures on June 16, there were no deaths from the coronavirus in Serbia in the past 24 hours and there were 337 newly infected people. It was announced on the covid19.rs web-site that 6,547 people were tested in that period. There are 81 patients currently being treated for the disease in hospitals, nine of them on ventilators.

16,105 people in Serbia have died from the disease since the coronavirus pandemic was proclaimed, 9,815,229 samples have been tested and 2,021,601 were positive for the virus.
