Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated on July 6 that he was pleased with the fact that the European Parliament (EP) had rejected the motion for stopping the pre-accession negotiations with Serbia over its stance on the war in Ukraine, adding that official Belgrade would continue to work in accordance with the interests of the state.

"There have been attempts by particular MEPs for a stopping of negotiations with Serbia to be passed. We are pleased that it failed, because it would be wrong, and (we are) grateful to the majority in the EP that refused... However, as I have said before – let everyone do their job. If they think we should beg – we will not," Vucic told reporters in Ivanjica.

He said it was very important for Serbia to stay on the European path, but that it was also important that it has the freedom and right to consider its own interests. Vucic said it was becoming increasingly difficult to talk to many people on the world political scene, because many of them believe they were at war and that there should be no discussion of certain issues – even obvious ones.

The Serbian president denied the claims in the media about his meeting with Kosovo Premier Albin Kurti in Brussels having been agreed, adding, however, that Serbia was not shunning dialogue because it wanted peace and development – not conflicts.
