A member of the Republic's Crisis Headquarters for fighting COVID-19, epidemiologist Predrag Kon, has stated that the recommendation for the fifth dose of the coronavirus vaccine could be considered in autumn.

"That is up to the National Committee for Immunization, which is in charge of monitoring. Not even Israel, which is ahead of everyone else, has declared the fifth dose as something it would administer on the population and, in our country, that will definitely go slower than in Israel. However, it will be on the agenda in autumn," Kon told the July 21 issue of the Kurir daily.

He said that, due to the contagiousness of the present variants of the coronavirus, vaccination would practically be needed every three months, but that it was "much more realistic for boosters to be renewed once a year, but not for everyone." Commenting on the number of infections in Serbia, Kon assessed that it should not be a surprise if a five-figured number of infections is reached, due to the season of vacations.
