In the evening of Aug. 14, a bus carrying 38 children and 10 parents from Serbia crashed in Bulgaria. No lives were lost in the accident but several people have been gravely injured.
After visiting the victims in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, on Aug. 15, Serbian Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar announced that one child’s father had to have his leg amputated, while two children were in intensive care and would be transferred back to Serbia.
Eight children and four adults were injured in the accident.
Loncar said two boys, aged ten and 11, were in intensive care and would be moved to Sofia, and that the other casualties had been taken to the University Children's Clinic in Belgrade's Tirsova Street for further care.
Most of the injured were children, the majority of which are confirmed to be members of the JU-LIRA folk dance troupe from Belgrade’s suburb Batajnica.
The children, accompanied by their parents, were returning from a festival in Nessebar, Bulgaria.
The exact cause of the accident has not been stated but according to one female passenger, the bus swerved off the road when the driver leaned over to lower the front auxiliary seat for a parent whose child felt sick.
