The European Union’s envoy for talks between Belgrade and Pristina, Miroslav Lajcak, is in contact with the two parties in order to use “the momentum created by an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina on personal documents,” but there “is no new EU framework” for the dialogue, as regional media reports have indicated, sources in the European Commission told BETA.

European diplomatic officials have said that it is of vital important to prevent new tensions, given that Pristina is pushing for a decision for Kosovo Serbs to change their license plates by Oct. 1.

EU High Representative Josep Borrell’s spokesman, Peter Stano, explained to BETA that there simply was no EU document, which an Albanian website claimed was presented to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti. What the Albanian media outlet published “is not true,” Stano stated. “We in the EU have never seen the text, and it certainly isn’t from the EU team involved in the dialogue.”

Borrell’s press officer also said that the European Commission never even commented on media reports claiming that the EU was the author of certain documents, neither in terms of the source or essence. He did suggest though that it would be wise to verify the claims, in order to dispel all doubt.
