The president of the Serbia-Center movement, Zdravko Ponos, assessed on Oct. 12 that Serbia's path to the EU was "obstructed" due to the current authorities and not because of the Kosovo issue.

"If Serbia were to agree to Kosovo's membership in the U.N. tomorrow, it would be equally far from EU membership as it is in the present moment, because this Serbia is not qualified to join the EU. That is obvious from the latest report of the European Commission," Ponos said in a statement.

He stressed that a precondition for Serbia's EU membership and for the preservation of Kosovo and Metohija was the removal of the Serbian Progressive Party from power. "If we allow this regime to haggle on the issue of Kosovo, the only thing the people would get from that deal will be a promise about Serbia's joining the EU in the next decade, the regime will get the money and to stay in power, while the people will neither see the money, nor Europe," Ponos stated.
