After the latest events in the north of Kosovo, German Ambassador to Kosovo Joern Rohde has called for the postponement of the snap mayoral elections in four northern Kosovo municipalities scheduled for Dec. 18.

Rohde said in a post on his Twitter account on Dec. 9 that he agreed with U.S. Ambassador Jeffrey Hovenier that those elections should be postponed. "It is obvious that the current situation is not conducive to holding them now," he tweeted.

Hovenier said the U.S. was "concerned" that conditions were not in place for holding elections in northern Kosovo. "The safety and security of all Kosovan citizens should be the highest priority. We look for all involved to exercise restraint," the U.S. ambassador tweeted.
