Serbia’s oppositional parties have announced their readiness for Belgrade’s local elections to be repeated next spring, but whether or not the vote will actually take place is up to President Aleksandar Vucic.

Democratic Party President Zoran Lutovac told the Dec. 22 edition of the Nova daily that the conditions of any potential election also need to be examined.

“If the conditions are the same as before, then we will again be facing organized fraud… If the elections are held in the spring, those conditions can hardly be changed in such a short time – but we are always ready to compete,” Lutovac said.

Serbian Movement Dveri leader Bosko Obradovic has said that the capital – whose assembly is currently dominated by the Serbian Progressive Party and the Socialist Party of Serbia – is “ripe” for a regime change, while Together MP Djordje Miketic has stated that, as far as he is concerned, the Belgrade elections “can take place tomorrow” because having the city helmed by Progressive Aleksandar Sapic is an “unbearable catastrophe.”

An MP from the Don’t Let Belgrade D(r)own movement has told the press that the group is prepared for elections and that polls have shown their support has been growing since the previous election, which took place last April.
