Serbia “regards highly” Togo’s support to the protection of its sovereignty and territorial integrity in line with the international law, President Aleksandar Vucic said in Belgrade, on Jan. 16.

At a meeting with the foreign minister of the Togolese Republic, Robert Dussey, the president said that Serbia was committed to “fostering the best of relations with African states,” the Office of the President of Serbia reported.

Minister Dussey said that Togo maintained “a firm position”, refusing to recognize the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo.

“We in Togo recognize only one Serbia, a single state,” the foreign minister said after the meeting with his Serbian counterpart, Ivica Dacic.

Minister Dacic said that Dussey was among “Serbia’s greatest friends,” reiterating that aside from Togo, another 26 states de-recognized Kosovo’s independence.

The Togolese foreign minister met with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic as well, saying during the meeting there was plenty of room for improvement in bilateral economic cooperation, promising that his country was a reliable economic and political partner to Serbia in the African continent.
