Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon said in Pristina on Jan. 16 that Kosovo and Serbia should talk about the European Union's proposal for normalization of relations.

Fajon told a joint news conference with Kosovo Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora Donika Gervalla that she had always said Kosovo should strive to normalize relations,
cautioning against escalation in northern Kosovo and noting that negotiations about the EU's normalization proposal should begin.

Fajon also said that anticipated elections in northern Kosovo should be fair and free.

Fajon said everyoen was concerned about security risks in the Balkans, adding: We need a strong Balkans and Kosovo.

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani thanked Fajon for Slovenia's support, past and present, to the development and international integration of Kosovo.

Osmani stated that Pristina "remained the constructive side" in the dialogue with Belgrade, but that Belgrade attempted to destabilize Kosovo and disrupt the dialogue through obstruction and use of criminal gangs in northern parts of the territory.
